The Woman in Black
Adapted by Stephen Mallatratt
Directed by Robin Herford
York Theatre Royal, 12 – 16 November
Millions of theatregoers worldwide have experienced “the most brilliantly effective spine-chiller you will ever encounter” (Daily Telegraph). Now The Woman in Black returns to haunt audiences at York Theatre Royal from 12 to 16 November.
This acclaimed ghost story The Woman in Black comes dramatically alive in Stephen Mallatratt’s ingenious stage adaptation first seen at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Susan Hill’s home town of Scarborough.
This brilliant production, directed by Robin Herford, is a brilliantly successful study in atmosphere, illusion and controlled horror.
A lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a Woman in Black engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story. It begins innocently enough, but then, as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds.
