Review: Stillia – Let Me In

It’s pretty safe to say it’s been a whirlwind start to 2017 for the lads from St Helens. After confirming the date for the release of this single as the 3rd February, Stillia have been announced at new Manchester venue Jimmy’s, chosen as one of “This Feeling’s” Big in 2017 and were asked to play at the huge Super League opening match between St Helens and Leeds Rhinos (massive!) at the Totally Wicked Stadium! These are just a few of the huge things to happen to this band on the up in the last few weeks and Friday they finally released their new track “Let Me In” just a few weeks ago.

Described as “super catchy” by Chris Hawkins (BBC Radio 6 Music) this track has a distinctly different sound to what we’ve heard before from Stillia. Whilst previous tracks such as Sometimes had a very typical britpop feel, debut single Let Me In has a more modern sound, similar to that of Circa Waves with huge harmonies and indie riffs throughout. Although there are similarities to previous releases Jack Bennett (vocals) feels much more comfortable with this style of music; his voice suits it perfectly and Connor Moran and Johnny Waring’s contributions add power and finesse to the choruses to great effect.

The song is also carried beautifully by Matty Bennett’s drums; with control but skill the rhythm that provides the backbone to the extremely tight guitar work, this band show off their technical ability whilst also sounding relaxed. “I’ll show you exactly what your missing”, the main chorus hook, almost feels like a call to all those who haven’t heard of the band yet and we have absolutely no doubt that this band will be household names by the end of this year.

With Johnny Vegas (yes THE Johnny Vegas) on directing the music video for the tune, coverage on BBC Radio 6, a slot on Sunday Brunch and just today being announced as This Feeling’s Radio X Track of the Week, this tune is set to propel Stillia to heights they belong to be at.
